Getting around
Staying at Fraivolti grants you the distinct advantage of central convenience combined with local calm. You will find that navigating Venice from San Polo is remarkably easy, whether you choose to wander the city's charming paths or use its efficient public transport system.
Exploring Venice on foot is always the most rewarding choice, and our location is ideal. The monumental Frari Basilica is a 2-minute stroll, and the vibrant Rialto Bridge is just a beautiful 8-minute walk from your door. Even iconic St. Mark's Square is only a pleasant 20-minute journey away, offering scenic views as you go. For arrivals or departures, the main transport hubs like the Train Station (Venezia S. Lucia) and Piazzale Roma are easily reached in just 10 minutes on foot.
For longer journeys or travel to the outer islands, the water bus (vaporetto) system is essential. The great benefit of our location is the S. Tomà Vaporetto Stop, located less than one minute from the apartment entrance. This station connects you immediately to ACTV Lines 1 and 2, which travel directly to the Train Station, Piazzale Roma, Rialto, and Piazza San Marco. Reaching us from Marco Polo Airport or the train station is simplified by these lines. For a truly local experience, you can also use the nearby Traghetto service to cross the Grand Canal efficiently.
Neighborhood
San Polo is far more than just a destination; it is Venice's oldest and smallest sestiere, and the very essence of authentic Venetian life. Staying at Fraivolti Apartment means residing in a neighborhood treasured by locals for its unique combination of historical significance and everyday tranquility.
For centuries, San Polo—particularly the area surrounding the Rialto Market—was the undisputed commercial and financial heart of the Republic. Today, this rich past blends seamlessly with a quiet, genuine atmosphere. Here, you will find picturesque, meandering calli (alleys) and intimate campi (squares), including the expansive Campo San Polo, where you can watch local children play and residents gather. This area is famous for its artisan workshops, traditional Bàcari (where you can enjoy the cicchetti culture), and the historic Mercato di Rialto, offering fresh produce and seafood exactly as it has for a thousand years.
Despite its peaceful atmosphere, San Polo is a cultural powerhouse. The district houses some of Venice’s most significant artistic treasures, including the awe-inspiring Basilica dei Frari and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, home to magnificent cycles of paintings by Tintoretto. Living here means having Venice’s cultural depth and vibrant local life right outside your door, away from the constant flow of crowds, yet perfectly connected to the entire city.
